New turnkey solution for full-genome data analysis

Tag: Technology, UpdatesGoerlitz @ 14:21

Together with PSSC Labs we have introduced a new turnkey solution for full-genome data analysis today: CLC Genomics Factory

Here’s a short 3-minute video introduction:

CLC Genomics Factory handles assembly, read mapping, and subsequent downstream analysis of very large amounts of high-throughput DNA and RNA sequencing data. Built as a high-performance bioinformatics appliance, CLC Genomics Factory comes in three different sizes with varying numbers of compute nodes, capable of processing the data output from up to 10 Illumina HiSeq2000 or 7 Life Technologies SOLiD 4 systems, as well as all other major high-throughput sequencing instruments.

What is cakeformatics?

Tag: Misc.Goerlitz @ 16:28

Back in July at ISMB we handed out t-shirts that had a picture of a nice looking cake piece and this text:

It’s a piece of cake! Just like your bioinformatics should be. Try a piece of delicious cakeformatics from the cake loving company, CLC bio

The overall idea is: Who doesn’t like cake in some form or another? Almost no one. So basically ‘cake’ makes you think of something nice. And that’s the same thing our users are saying about our software: Instead of bioinformatics having to be a headache with Linux computers and mile-long command-line scripts, it’s instead multiple powerful analyses through an intuitive graphical user interface. It’s nice.

In essence: Cakeformatics is basically just bioinformatics the delicious way. Just like we like it. Enjoy!

Scientist, Jeremy Lambert, from RainDance elaborates on how their microdroplet technology, high-throughput sequencing, and CLC bio’s bioinformatics tools can be used in resequencing projects to effectively speed up the process of analyzing complex diseases. In this video examplified by a publication on X-Linked mental retardation from the Max-Planck Institute.

OMRF research on Lupus erythematosus

Tag: ResearchGoerlitz @ 12:47

A lot of very interesting research is going on everywhere around the world, and it’s hard to keep up with all the exciting things going on, so here’s a glimpse of some of it.

Recently we stopped by our friends at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Patrick Gaffney, MD, and Graham Wiley, PhD, to learn more about their sequence capture approach to identifying novel genes that are linked to Lupus erythematosus. Check out the video below to learn more!

Next-Gen Sequencing in 2010

Tag: Misc.Goerlitz @ 19:07

Here’s a brilliant piece on the sequencing technologies in 2010, written by Dan Koboldt over at his MassGenomics blog.

Something had been bothering me about the sequencing-company presentations this year, and I finally realized what it was.  During AGBT 2009, every player was gunning to take over the world. This year it seems like every sequencing platform has a niche in mind.
